Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Handicap Bonus Daily Double: #1 The Organist (Cheltenham, 2.50pm)

The Cheltenham Festival handicaps take a bit of work to sort out, but we reckon we’ve got two right sorts for today.

The first leg of our Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Handicap Bonus Daily Double is The Organist.

The Coral Cup is always run at a mad pace.

On this year’s soft ground it is going to be a mighty slog and we want a strong stayer.

Oliver Sherwood’s The Organist is just that and more.

The seven-year-old  mare was not beaten far in the Grade 1 Mares’ Hurdle last season.

This season, Sherwood has competed her in handicap hurdles and she has been impressive.

Her win at Newbury, in soft ground over three miles, showed just how strong a stayer she is.

Sherwood has kept her off since January to freshen her up for the Festival.

She looked to have a decent chance in the Pertempts Final here tomorrow, so the fact she takes up this engagement is telling.

Sherwood is in good form and Leighton Aspell takes the ride.

Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Handicap Bonus Daily Double: #2 Nube Negra (Cheltenham, 4.50pm)

The second leg of our Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Handicap Bonus Daily Double is Nube Negra.

Dan Skelton’s four-year-old has taken an unusual route to the Festival.

Formerly a runner on the flat in his native Spain, Nube Negra joined Skelton last October.

And he has really taken to hurdles.

He won his debut at Market Rasen easily and was second next time out.

That run saw him finish just three lengths behind Triumph Hurdle favourite Apple’s Shakira.

Nube Negra then won last time out at Doncaster on soft ground.

His Cheltenham run from December entitled him to run in the more prestigious Triumph Hurdle on Friday, so the fact he’s running in this looks a clue.

Conditions today look ideal for him and he has that priceless Cheltenham form.

Harry Skelton takes the ride.
