Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Daily Double: #1 Cause Of Causes (Cheltenham, 4.10pm)

Two really solid bets make up our Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Daily Double.

Both are trained in Ireland and the first is Gordon Elliott’s Cause Of Causes.

Elliott’s 10-year-old is one of the leading lights on the cross country race scene and comes alive at Cheltenham.

He came into last season’s race in no sort of form, but ran out an incredible nine-length winner.

Cause Of Causes followed that up with a second in last season’s Grand National.

This season has seen Cause Of Causes run just once. He was well beaten at Leopardstown last month, but we suspect that was just a warm up for this.

We are backing him to land this race for the second year on the trot.

Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Daily Double: #2 Blackbow (Cheltenham, 5.30pm)

The second leg of our Wednesday, March 14: Cheltenham Festival Daily Double runs in the Champion Bumper.

There are plenty of unknowns in this race, as always, but Willie Mullins’ Blackbow looks a cut above.

The five-year-old was an impressive point-to-point winner for former trainer Sophie Lacey.

Blackbow was transferred to Mullins’ care in December and has won twice for his new trainer.

The most recent of those, in a Grade 2 at Leopardstown last month, saw Blackbow post a big rating in our notebook.

Mullins is a marvel at readying one for this race and has won it three times in the last decade.

Blackbow looks his strongest option and we’re backing him to win this.
