The Ryanair Chase is a Grade 1 race over 2 miles and 5 furlongs.

That is beneficial to horses that can’t quite see out the 3 miles of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

It provides another Grade 1 event for horses such as Vautour, Dynaste and Cue Card, who have all won this race recently.

Cue Card represents some value at 25/1 as a multiple Grade 1 winner.

But he hasn’t won a race in his last four and there is a thought he might be declining.

This year it could come down to two horses at the head of the market: Un De Sceaux and Top Notch.

The latter is another key runner from the Munir and Souede partnership for trainer, Nicky Henderson.

His last two chase runs in preparation for the festival have been successful.

He won two Grade 2s in very effective fashion under rides from Nico de Boinville and regular rider Daryl Jacob.

He comes in to this second favourite at around 5/1 but will have to be at his very best in order to beat market favourite Un De Sceaux.

Last year’s winner has gone from strength to strength this year, winning both of his races well.

The most recent was the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase.

He won that race for a record third time in a row and pushed his winnings through the £1,000,000 barrier.

A repeat of this form will see him win this race again for trainer Willie Mullins.

At odds of 7/2 it could be a festival banker.
