The AccaDoo racing tipsters like the look of Faugheen to take this season’s Stayer’s Hurdle.

Willie Mullins landed this race with Penhill last season and Faugheen gave that one a kicking at Punchestown.

The former Champion Hurdle winner was imperious at his peak before injury struck.

Cheltenham Stayers’ Hurdle tip 2019: Faugheen

He won the Neptune Novice Hurdle in 2014 and followed up by winning the Champion Hurdle in 2015.

Injury meant that he never got the chance to defend his crown until last season.

He finished a long way behind Buveur D’Air last season and it looked like retirement might be on the cards.

However, he bounced back at Punchestown in fine style.

That was his first run over three miles since a point-to-point race in 2012.

But the step up in trip bought out his best and he beat Penhill by 13 lengths.

That puts him at the top of the three mile hurdling ranks and it is hard to see anything improving to match that level.

Penhill had been a decent winner at Cheltenham but, in all honesty, the staying hurdle ranks do not look that strong.

The staying novice ranks from last season also look to be missing a bit of star quality.

Colin Tizzard’s Kilbricken Storm won the three mile novice hurdle at last season’s festival, but that was a bit of a shock and it’s hard to see anything of any real quality emerging from that race.

The only worry has to be his fragility, but he did run five times last season and it is hoped his injury problems are a thing of the past.
