The AccaDoo Cheltenham Gold Cup tip landed last year when Native River did the business.

And we reckon Colin Tizzard’s star is going to land a repeat next year.

Native River will be nine in March. So it is right to think there may still be some improvement to come from last season.

Cheltenham Gold Cup tip 2019: Native River

He has been a star of the staying division in the last two seasons.

In 2016/17 he won the Hennessey at Newbury and then followed up by winning the Welsh National.

He then won the Denman Chase at Newbury before finishing third in that season’s Gold Cup.

To get so close to winning racing’s blue ribband after such a gruelling season was some effort.

However, Native River bettered it last season.

Tizzard plotted a much easier path to Cheltenham and Native River only ran once.

That also came in the Denman Chase at Newbury and he won well.

Native River led from the off in last season’s Gold Cup and had a herculean battle with Might Bite.

And his light campaign meant he had enough in the tank to see off that rival and land racing’s biggest prize.

Tizzard has indicated that Native River will plot a similar course to last season.

It’s hard to see any other outcome should he make it to Cheltenham in the same form as last season.

It’s hard to see any of last season’s rivals improving past him and last season’s novices also have questions to answer.

Presenting Percy looks the best of last season’s staying novices and he could be the biggest threat.

He was an impressive winner of the RSA Chase at last year’s festival and it will be interesting to see how he copes in open company.

But Native River’s lead from the front style makes him very hard to pass and we fancy he will be the first repeat winner since Best Mate.
