The AccaDoo racing tipsters picked the winner of the Champion Chase last season, but it wasn’t hard to do!

Altior was a stone wall favourite last season and was as close to a sure thing as they come at last season’s festival.

He duly delivered and we had a nice little win to collect.

Cheltenham Champion Chase tip 2019: Altior

Nicky Henderson’s eight-year-old is unbeaten since April 2015.

That run includes winning the 2016 Supreme Novice Hurdle and the Arkle Novice Chase in in 2018.

He was an evens favourite for last season’s Champion Chase but romped to a seven length win.

Altior also won the Grade 1 Celebration Chase to sign off last season at Sandown.

It’s impossible to see any of the current crop of two-mile chasers improving enough to topple Altior.

That means we have to look at those horses emerging from the novice ranks.

The one that catches the eye is Willie Mullins’ Footpad.

This six-year-old was unbeaten last season and won four Grade 1s.

The best of those performances were in the biggest races he contested.

He won the Arkle at last season’s Cheltenham Festival by 145 lengths and romped home at the Punchestown Festival too.

That marked him out as one to watch.

However, we need to see him perform in open company first and fancy he’ll have to improve some still to beat Altior.

On our ratings he still has almost a stone to find with the reigning champion and that is an awful lot.

We think it is better to stick with the champ and that’s why he’s our antepost pick.
