The AccaDoo boys like a horse who does the business year after year at the Cheltenham Festival, and we reckon that we have found a nice 10/1 bet for the Stayers Hurdle 2018.
The 2017 winner, Nichols Canyon can be in and out with his form throughout the season, but he really seems to come alive when he arrives at Prestbury Park in March.
Placed in the 2015 Neptune Novice Hurdle behind Windsor Park, Nichols Canyon followed that up with a defeat of Faugheen on the first run of his following season and an eventual third place in the Champion Hurdle in March 2016.
With a pedigree that suggested it would be over staying trips that Nichols Canyon would be seen to best, his exploits over the minimum trip – and especially being placed in a Champion Hurdle – are all the more remarkable.
And when finally given his chance over three miles Willie Mullins star was at it again in 2017, bagging the World Hurdle by seeing off the challenge of the persistent Lil Rockerfella.
And, while favourite Unowhatimeanharry disappointed in the 2017 edition of the Stayers Hurdle and there is a suspicion that it was not the strongest renewal of the race, Nichols Canyon is still only seven years old and still has plenty of room for improvement.
The next batch of novices coming through to challenge in the staying hurdle division don’t look particularly threatening, and Nichols Canyon clearly has the beating of the current crop.
So, with no credible challengers on the horizon, we think the current 10/1 on offer is far too big for this proven festival performer and the AccaDoo tipsters are backing Nichols Canyon to be a repeat winner.
