The AccaDoo boys know it’s never too early to be thinking about the Cheltenham Festival, and we’ve got our Champion Hurdle 2018 bet for sorted already.

Buveur Dair won the 2017 edition for Nicky Henderson, and we are taking the 5/1 on the pair repeating the trick next year.

In finishing second in the Champion Hurdle for the third time, Buveur Dair’s admirable stablemate My Tent Or Yours provides a useful yardstick with which to rate the merit of Buveur Dair’s victory. The AccaDoo boys reckon it was at least the equal of Annie Power’s win in 2016, and also of the mighty Faugheen’s victory in 2015.

The fact that Buveur Dair is only a six-year-old bodes well, as there could still be improvement to come, but it may well be the case that his current level of form will be more than adequate to win the Champion Hurdle 2018 too, because the two-mile hurdling division does not look particularly strong at present.

My Tent Or Yours will be 11 next season, Faugheen and Annie Power are both out with long-term injuries and it must be more likely than not they will not race again, the mare Apple’s Jade may be a contender but could want to defend the mares’ race crown she won this season, while Willie Mullins’ mares Limini and Let’s Dance will surely be targeted at winning that mares’ race title back from Gordon Elliott’s Apple’s Jade.

Furthermore, the top horses from the 2017’s novice hurdle races – Willoughby Court and Neon Court from the Neptune, and Labaik and Melon from the Supreme – will have to improve mightily to trouble the current champ.

With a dearth of credible contenders and back at a track Henderson’s charge has run so well at throughout his career, the AccaDoo boys think the 5/1 on Buveur Dair is a good price. And we fancy Henderson will be repeating the journey to the winner’s enclosure in the Champion Hurdle 2018, and we’re getting stuck in already.
